Zig Zag Handwoven Rug

This zig-zag cotton texture comes from a sut or tzute cloth, woven on a hip loom in Almolonga, Guatemala. The zigzag pattern uses a brocade technique, where extra cotton threads decorate the fabric during weaving.

People use a sut or tzute in many ways. It can cover the head or shoulders during ceremonies, carry children or groceries, hold sacred items, store bread, or serve as a tablecloth. Both men and women wear it, but this one is for everyday use by women. The fabric shows zigzag lines in yellow, blue, white, red, green, and pink.
